HONGTONG Solar PV Cables Certified by TÜV Rheinland to EN 50618 and IEC 62930

2026-10-21 14:03:56

For solar projects, certification is more than a logo printed on a cable.

It provides a technical reference for what the product has been tested against, which product range is covered, and whether the manufacturing process remains under ongoing surveillance.

HONGTONG CABLE has now received TÜV Rheinland certification for its photovoltaic cable range under both EN 50618:2014 and IEC 62930:2017, covering single-core solar cables from 1×2.5mm² to 1×35mm².

The newly issued certificates cover two important product designations:

· H1Z2Z2-K solar cable under EN 50618

· 62930 IEC 131 solar cable under IEC 62930

Both certifications apply to photovoltaic cables designed for DC 1.5kV systems.

For EPC contractors, distributors and solar project buyers, this provides a clearer basis for product approval, technical documentation and procurement.

Two Standards, Two Certification Routes

EN 50618 and IEC 62930 are both widely used technical references for photovoltaic cables, but they are not simply two names for the same document.

EN 50618

The EN-certified HONGTONG product is identified as:

H1Z2Z2-K

The TÜV certificate covers:

· 1×2.5mm² to 1×35mm²

· DC rated voltage: 1.5kV

· AC rated voltage: 1.0/1.0kV

· ambient temperature: -40°C to +90°C

· maximum conductor temperature: +120°C

H1Z2Z2-K is widely recognized in European and international photovoltaic projects and is commonly specified for DC-side wiring between PV modules, combiner boxes and inverters.

IEC 62930

The second TÜV-certified range follows:

IEC 62930:2017

with the cable designation:

62930 IEC 131

The certified range also covers:

· 1×2.5mm² to 1×35mm²

· DC rated voltage: 1.5kV

· AC rated voltage: 1.0/1.0kV

· maximum conductor temperature: +120°C

The certified product also carries the additional designation:

HALOGEN FREE LOW SMOKE

For projects that specify an IEC 62930 solar cable, this gives buyers a direct product range that matches the relevant international standard.

Why Certification Scope Matters

A common mistake in cable procurement is to ask only:

“Is your solar cable TÜV certified?”

That question is too broad.

A certificate should always be checked against the exact product being purchased.

Buyers should confirm:

· the certification standard

· cable designation

· certified size range

· rated voltage

· manufacturer

· production site

· certificate number

For example, a certificate covering 2.5–35mm² does not automatically prove certification for 50mm² or 70mm².

Likewise, certification for a single-core H1Z2Z2-K product does not automatically extend to a different cable construction simply because both products are used in solar systems.

This is why the scope printed on the certificate matters just as much as the TÜV mark itself.

Certification Is Also About Production Consistency

One detail that is easy to overlook is that the TÜV certificates state that manufacturing of the certified product is subject to surveillance.

That distinction is important.

Certification is not only about sending one cable sample for testing and then using the result indefinitely.

For a certified product range, the cable supplied to the market needs to remain consistent with the approved design and certification requirements.

For a PV cable manufacturer, this places greater emphasis on production control, including:

· conductor specification

· insulation and sheath materials

· cable dimensions

· surface marking

· finished-product inspection

· production traceability

For the buyer, that means the certificate should connect back to the actual cable being delivered.

What Should Buyers Match During Inspection?

When a certified solar cable arrives on site, the inspection should not stop at the packaging.

The delivered cable should be checked against the approved technical documents.

A practical receiving check may include:

Check Item

What to Verify

Cable Designation

H1Z2Z2-K or 62930 IEC 131

Cable Size

Must fall within the ordered and certified specification

Rated Voltage

DC 1.5kV where specified

Cable Marking

Consistent with the approved product

Manufacturer

Matches certification documentation

Datasheet

Same construction as the approved cable

Certificate

Correct standard and product scope

Packaging

Correct length, color and project identification

This is particularly useful for EPC projects where cable documentation may be reviewed before installation or project acceptance.

Why Both EN 50618 and IEC 62930 Matter

Different solar projects may reference different standards.

A European project may specifically request H1Z2Z2-K solar cable to EN 50618.

Another international project may specify IEC 62930 solar cable in the technical specification.

Supporting both certification systems gives buyers more flexibility when matching cable documentation to the project requirement.

It also reduces the need to treat every market as if it used exactly the same specification language.

The key point is simple:

The cable should be supplied against the standard actually required by the project.

Certification makes that technical comparison much easier.

1.5kV DC Has Become an Important PV Cable Requirement

Both newly certified cable ranges are rated for DC 1.5kV.

This voltage class is important for modern photovoltaic systems, particularly larger commercial, industrial and utility-scale installations.

Higher DC system voltage can allow more modules to be connected within a string and can influence system architecture, cable runs and balance-of-system design.

For cable procurement, however, the practical requirement remains straightforward:

the cable voltage rating must match the system design.

A cable should never be selected simply because it is described as “solar cable.” Its voltage rating, standard and certified product range should all be confirmed.

Certification Does Not Replace Project-Specific Review

A TÜV certificate is a strong technical document, but it does not mean that one certified solar cable automatically meets every requirement in every country or project.

Projects may also specify:

· local electrical regulations

· special flame requirements

· installation conditions

· connector compatibility

· cable sizing requirements

· UV and weather exposure

· underground installation conditions

· packaging and marking rules

· additional customer specifications

For this reason, certification should be treated as the technical foundation for product qualification, not as a substitute for reviewing the project specification.

This is especially important for international EPC projects where several standards may appear in the same tender document.

What This Means for HONGTONG Solar Cable Supply

With the new TÜV Rheinland certifications, HONGTONG CABLE can now provide certified photovoltaic cable ranges under both:

EN 50618:2014 — H1Z2Z2-K

and

IEC 62930:2017 — 62930 IEC 131

for sizes from:

1×2.5mm² to 1×35mm²

with a rated voltage of:

DC 1.5kV

For buyers, the value is not simply the addition of another certificate.

It means that the product specification, certification scope and manufacturing requirements can be checked against a defined third-party certification framework before the cable enters a project.

Final Thoughts

Solar cable certification is most useful when it makes procurement clearer.

Instead of relying on a general statement such as:

“This is a TÜV solar cable.”

buyers can verify:

· which standard applies

· which cable designation is certified

· which sizes are covered

· what voltage rating is approved

· whether the manufacturer and production site match the certificate

That is the level of detail that turns certification from a marketing label into a practical procurement tool.

With TÜV Rheinland certification now covering both H1Z2Z2-K solar cable under EN 50618 and IEC 62930 solar cable, HONGTONG CABLE can support photovoltaic projects with clearer technical documentation and a more transparent product approval process.
